Metabolic Balance FAQs: Your Questions Answered Before You Start
If you're considering Metabolic Balance, you probably have questions…. and if you’ve already tried calorie counting, cutting carbs, intermittent fasting, meal plans, challenges — or seemingly everything — you may also be wondering:
How is this going to be any different?
That's a fair question.
Metabolic Balance isn't another generic diet or one-size-fits-all meal plan. Your personalized nutrition plan is created using your blood values, health information and personal data to determine the foods and portions included in your plan.
Here are some of the questions I hear most often from women considering the program.
Will Metabolic Balance actually work if I've tried everything else?
Metabolic Balance takes a different approach because your nutrition plan is personalized to you rather than giving everyone the same diet.
Many popular weight-loss programs start with a formula: eat a certain number of calories, hit certain macros, eliminate a food group or follow the same meal plan as everyone else.
Metabolic Balance looks at you first.
Your blood values, health history, medications, body measurements and personal information are used to create your individualized nutrition plan.
That doesn't guarantee a particular result — every body responds differently — but it gives us a much more personalized starting point than simply handing you another generic diet.
You may feel like you’ve spent years guessing what to eat; having structure can be incredibly freeing.
Do I have to give up all the foods I love?
No. Metabolic Balance becomes progressively more flexible as you move through the program.
The beginning of the program is intentionally structured. You'll focus primarily on whole, minimally processed foods from your personalized food list while establishing new eating habits.
But you aren't expected to live in the strict phase forever.
As you progress, additional foods and flexibility are introduced, and you learn how to enjoy things outside of your plan while maintaining the foundation you've built.
The goal isn't to make you afraid of food.
It's to help you develop a way of eating that you can realistically continue long after the initial program is finished.
How quickly will I lose weight?
While everyone responds differently, losing around 1–2 lbs per week can be a realistic expectation for many people following the program consistently.
In my own practice, I’ve seen clients who follow their personalized plan closely lose 20+ LBS in 12 weeks. That said, I never guarantee a specific number on the scale because your starting weight, health, activity level, medications, hormones, sleep, stress and consistency can all influence how quickly your body responds.
And we aren't only watching the scale.
Clients may also notice improvements in:
cravings and hunger
energy throughout the day
how their clothes fit
waist measurements
their relationship with food
consistency with healthy habits
Some people see changes quickly, while others need more time — and both can still be making meaningful progress.
My goal isn't to help you lose as much weight as possible, as quickly as possible.
It's to help you lose weight in a way that gives you the best chance of actually keeping it off.
What if I'm really busy?
You don't need a perfectly calm life to follow Metabolic Balance.
In fact, the structure can make eating during a busy week simpler.
Instead of spending the day wondering:
What should I eat?
Should I have a snack?
Did I eat too much?
Do I have enough protein?
Should I skip dinner because lunch was too big?
...you have a framework to follow.
There is some planning involved, particularly in the beginning. Grocery shopping and meal preparation become important.
But once you get into a routine, having fewer food decisions to make throughout the day can actually be one of the biggest benefits.
Your life doesn't need to become less busy. We need to create habits that can survive the busy parts.
Is Metabolic Balance safe if I'm taking medication?
Your medications and health history are reviewed as part of the intake process, but Metabolic Balance does not replace medical care from your physician.
It's important that I know about medications, diagnoses and relevant health concerns before you begin.
And because nutrition changes and weight loss can sometimes affect medication needs, your prescribing healthcare provider should continue monitoring your health and medications throughout the process when appropriate.
I will never tell you to stop, reduce or change a prescription medication.
Those decisions belong between you and your medical provider.
What if my bloodwork always comes back “normal”?
Normal bloodwork doesn't mean there's nothing useful we can learn from your blood values when creating your nutrition plan.
Metabolic Balance uses a comprehensive panel of blood values alongside your health information and personal data to develop your individualized food plan.
This isn't about diagnosing a medical condition from your bloodwork.
It's about using more information about you when determining the foods that will make up your personalized nutrition plan.
Your doctor may look at your results and appropriately tell you everything falls within the expected clinical ranges.
Metabolic Balance is asking a different question:
How can we use this information to personalize your nutrition?
Do I have to change everything overnight?
No. Metabolic Balance is intentionally divided into phases.
You don't receive your plan and suddenly have to figure everything out by yourself the next morning.
The program progresses through four phases:
Phase 1: Preparation
A short preparation period gets you ready to begin your personalized nutrition plan.
Phase 2: Strict Adjustment
This is the most structured portion of the program. You'll follow your personalized food list, portions and the core Metabolic Balance rules.
Phase 3: Relaxed Adjustment
As you progress, we begin introducing greater flexibility and additional foods while you learn how your body responds.
Phase 4: Maintenance
This is where you take everything you've learned and turn it into a sustainable way of eating for everyday life.
The structured portion has a purpose — but it isn't meant to be where you stay forever.
Am I going to be hungry all the time?
The program isn't designed around constantly fighting hunger or surviving on tiny meals.
Your plan provides specific foods and portions for your meals, with an emphasis on protein, whole foods and structured meal timing.
One of the skills you'll also begin developing is learning the difference between true physical hunger and eating because of boredom, habit, stress or cravings.
That's an important part of creating a healthier relationship with food.
Do I have to count calories or track macros?
No. You don't need to count calories or calculate macros while following your Metabolic Balance plan.
Your personalized plan tells you which foods to eat and provides the appropriate portions for your meals.
For women who have spent years entering every bite into an app, weighing everything and worrying about whether they went 100 calories over their target, this can be a refreshing change.
You still have structure — you're simply following your personalized plan instead of chasing numbers all day.
Is Metabolic Balance just another diet?
Metabolic Balance does have a structured weight-loss phase, but the long-term goal is not to keep you dieting forever.
That's an important distinction.
Losing weight is one thing.
Learning how to live after you've lost it is another.
The later phases of the program are designed to help you move away from the initial structure and toward a more flexible way of eating while keeping the habits and principles you've learned.
Because I don't want you finishing the program thinking:
“Okay...now what?”
I want you to understand how to move forward.
What happens if I have a birthday, vacation or dinner out?
Real life is expected — you don't have to disappear from restaurants, vacations and celebrations forever.
There are times during the initial structured phase when following your plan closely is important.
But part of the process is eventually learning how to navigate meals outside your normal routine without turning one dinner into a week — or a month — of feeling like you've “fallen off.”
You aren't trying to become perfect at dieting.
You're learning how to become consistent at taking care of yourself.
Is Metabolic Balance only about losing weight?
Weight loss may be the reason many people initially come to Metabolic Balance, but it's not the only thing we work toward.
My goal is also to help you build a routine around food that feels sustainable and understandable.
Because getting to a certain number on the scale isn't very helpful if you spend the rest of your life terrified you're going to gain it all back.
The bigger win is reaching a point where you can say:
“I know how to take care of myself now.”
Is Metabolic Balance right for me?
If you feel like losing weight has become harder than it used to be, you're tired of constantly starting over, and you want something more personalized than another internet meal plan, Metabolic Balance may be worth exploring.
You don't need to know whether it's right for you before reaching out.
That's exactly what the discovery call is for.
We'll talk about where you're at, what you've tried, what you're struggling with and what you'd like to change.
If I think Metabolic Balance could be a good fit, I'll explain what working together looks like.
And if it isn't the right fit, I'll tell you that too.
Ready to find out what your personalized plan could look like?
Let's stop guessing — and start building a way of eating that works for you.
